BILLY HERBERT EVERETT, MAGEE, MS

Billy Herbert Everett, 78, of Magee, MS, passed away Wednesday,  April 4, 2012, at the Veterans Home in Collins, MS.   Billy Herbert was born in Magee on April 2, 1934, to Herbert Albert Everett and Ural McLeod Everett of Magee.

Following graduation from Magee High School in 1952, he enlisted in the Navy.

Bill was very active as a businessman in Magee, owning the 49 Drive-In Theater, the local White Auto Store, and the Super Duper Cotton Gin.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Magee, and a member of the T. J. Blackwell Sunday School class over 50 years.  He was a member of the Magee Jaycees, a Mason in the Oak Hill Lodge F&AM Lodge #553, a 32^nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a Shriner in the Wahabi Temple in Jackson,  MS.  He was also a member of the Magee Volunteer Fire Department  for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Jo Grubbs Everett of Magee; children, Denis (Susan Hilderbrand) Everett of Starkville, MS, Sherry (John) Black of  Tupelo, MS and Joel (Chantel Crosby) Everett of Clinton, MS; grandchildren, Erin Everett  and Catherine Everett of Starkville, MS, Ashley White of Tupelo, MS, Brett White of Birmingham, AL, Ramsey Black of Starkville, MS, and Reece Everett of Clinton, MS; nieces: Gwin (Grubbs) Chestnut of Magee, MS,  Marsha Jo (Grubbs) Brown of Mendenhall, MS,  and Kathy (Grubbs) Peacock of  Brandon, MS; nephews, Mark Grubbs of Clinton, and Grafton (Junior) Grubbs of Pearl; and numerous great nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers are former employees of the 49 Drive-In Theater, who were teenagers at the time, and whom he always kept up with over the years, Stanley Carr, Richard Harper, Herman Walker,  Terry Carmichael, David Hankins, Paul Purser, and Thomas Earles.  Honorary pallbearers are his surviving teammates who won the District Six Football Championship in 1951.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 7, 2012, from 10 am until 12:30 pm at Tutor  Funeral  Home in Magee.  Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Magee, at 2:00 pm.  The interment will follow at Magee City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
