William G. Munn, M.D., 77, lifelong resident of Mendenhall, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Simpson General Hospital where he spent 50 years serving his community and touching countless lives.
Dr. Munn was a member of the 1953 Mendenhall High school Tigers Little Dixie Championship team and was valedictorian of his 1954 graduation class. After spending his undergraduate years at Ole Miss, he graduated from the University of Tennessee Medical School in 1960 and received his 1st Lieutenant commission in the Army that same year. in 1963, he established his medical practice in Mendenhall at Simpson General where he later became chief of staff.
Dr. Munn was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He loved to hunt and fish, and also enjoyed a fine meal, often making the drive to Jackson to visit the Mayflower Cafe. He followed Ole Miss and Mendenhall Tiger football throughtout his life and witnessed many great moments with each.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Truman "F. T." Munn and Effie Coleman Munn; his beloved wife, Betty Sue Munn; sons, Jon Alan Munn and Jason Leonard Munn; brother, Jimmie Lawrence Munn; and sister, Mary Carroll Prince.
He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Ulmer (Tommy) and Janna Crockett (Clint); sister, Patsy Ruth Munn of Mendenhall; nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall, Monday, February 24, from 5:00-800 pm. Funeral services will be held the following morning at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church Mendenhall with a graveside service to follow at Mendenhall City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mendenhall City Cemetery or First Baptist Church Mendenhall.
