Madge Letcher Love, 91, formerly of Mendenhall, MS, passed from this life on April 23, 2014, in Gulfport, MS, surrounded by her loving family. As she lived her life in Mendenhall, there were four fortunate men that were privileged to spend part of their life with Madge: Earl Ponder, with whom she had four beautiful and loving daughters, D.C. Ainsworth, Shorty May, and Dewey Smith.
Madge was born in Scooba, MS to Dr. Travis and Roxie Love. As the baby of the family, Madge was allowed to travel with her country doctor father on house calls from a very early age. She is preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Travis Love Jr., Margorie Neukom, Estelle Lumsden, and Vivian Williams; her four husbands, and one great grandchild, Josh Taylor.
Madge retired from a banking career that began with the People’s Bank in Mendenhall and included a significant role in bringing the banking system in this state from a paper system to a “new-fangled computerized system”. As she traveled over the state for Deposit Guaranty in Jackson, converting small banks to a centralized computerized system, she made many friends with her quick smile and easy-going ways. And as many would testify, she had a way with the sweets. Cakes, pies and candies as sweet as her smile became her trademark.
Madge is survived by and will be greatly missed by her four daughters, Madaline Nunn, Maureen Phillips, Dixie Daniels(Stanley “Rip”) and Roxie Boynick(Lester “Nick”), ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews .
