Elma Rees Barnes Curry, 73, passed away August 14, 2013 after a lengthly illness. She was the first sibling of the late Rosalee Hewitt and Iddo W. Barnes. She joined Second Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Sandy Hook, MS at an early age. She graduated from Friendship School in Sandy Hook, MS and Jackson State University. She served as a dedicated educator for 37 years before retirement. She will be remembered as a mentor to many.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three children; Christopher (Sabine) Barnes of Meridian, MS., Rev. Willie (Felecia) Curry of Moss Point, MS.,Vicki (Michael) Hayes of Mendenhall, MS; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, eight sisters and three brothers, three sister in laws, three brother in laws, along with a host of many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Cephus J. Curry, and one brother.
Visitation for friends will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Monday, August 19, 2013 at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee and 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Tuesday at Magee First Baptist Church. Homegoing services will be held at 12:00 pm Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Magee First Baptist Church with interment following in Gregory Cemetery with Rev. Terry Bogan officiating.
