Ivan Ross Mixon, age 79, of Hattiesburg lost the battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, May 12, 2013 but he won the war for eternity! He has now gone to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

"Ross" served 2 1/2 years in the US Army and was a Korean veteran. He was a fire fighter and a fire inspector for the Hattiesburg Fire Department, from where he retired as Captain after 20 plus years. He was a member of 19th Avenue Baptist Church.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents Perry Mixon and Mary Jane (Drennen) Mixon; two brothers and a sister.

Ross is survived by his spouse of over 59 years, Anne (Rayborn) Mixon and their daughter, Debra (Mixon) Smith; two grandsons, Barry Smith and Brent Smith, and 5 great-grandchildren. He leaves his only living sibling, Minnie Merle Matheny of Bassfield and her family; one aunt, Alma Easterling of Sumrall, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws.

Ross had many, many friends and never met a stranger. He touched more lives than any one can imagine and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Ross. We'll all be together again some day soon!
