SHERILYN DURNING, MAGEE, MS

Sherilyn (Berry) Durning, much loved wife and mother, lost her battle with Multiple Myeloma on April 27, 2011.  She was born on January 28, 1947, in San Diego California.  She was the youngest child and only daughter of Maryle (Boney) and BC Berry.  She had a wonderful childhood alongside her two brothers, Don (from Arizona) and Ray (from North Carolina).  She was educated in San Diego public schools, and later attended San Diego State University. She went on to receive her Bachelor's and a Master's Degree. In 1995, she was reintroduced to her childhood friend who would become the love of her life, Charles Durning.  They were married in San Diego. They moved to Las Vegas, and Sherilyn worked in the mental health field, primarily with developmentally disabled adults and teens. After a few years of desert living in Nevada, they made their way to Magee Mississippi to be closer to family.  Soon, they were surrounded by children and grandchildren, and their lives were filled with joy and happiness.

Sherilyn flourished in Magee, serving on the Board of Directors of the local YMCA. She and Charles became active in the First United Methodist Church of Magee, encouraging her pet project-organizing the church's Food Pantry. She taught Sunday School,  sang in the choir, and thoroughly loved her Bible Study group. She was sought out by many, and loved by all.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Maryle (Boney) and BC Berry of San Diego, CA. She leaves behind her beloved husband Charles; her daughter Dennell and husband Tim Lozos of Texas, and their children Lexy and Niko; a daughter Laurie and her husband Jason Price of Mendenhall, and their children Morgan, Sarah, Samuel, Andrew, Mary, Fisher, and Lilli;  a son Michael Marchand and wife Michelle of Magee, and their children Evelyn and Cora;  a son Matthew Marchand of Big Bend, Texas; and two very spoiled kitties.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30th at 2:00pm at First United Methodist Church of Magee, officiated by Reverend Jerry Horton, and Reverend Barry Male.  As she requested, her ashes will be scattered on the Island of Kirbati, in the South Pacific. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the McIntyre Fund or Pantry Fund, care of FUMC, Magee.  Final arrangements made with the assiatance of Tutor Funeral Home.
