Thadesa Cozette Lockett (affectionately known as "Cozy") was born April 3, 1973, in Mount Olive, Mississippi, to the late George Powell and Annette Powell. She graduated from Mount Olive Attendance Center in 1991 where she participated in various athletic activities. After completing high school, she committed herself to higher learning by earning degrees at the following institutions: Jones Junior College (AA); William Carey University (BS); and Belhaven College (MSM).
Her career started by touching lives as a teacher at the Sanderson Farm's Daycare in Collins, Mississippi. She later served as a Children's Case Manager and at Pine Belt Mental Healthcare in Collins, Mississippi. A compassionate, selfless, servant leader, Cozy impacted the lives of everyone she came into contact with.
At an early age, Cozy accepted Christ and became a committed member of St. James United Methodist Church, Mount Olive, Mississippi, where she faithfully served in the choir and youth ministry. At the youthful age of sixteen she met the love of her life, John Lockett. Four years later they married and continued a committed life of ministry. To this union two children, Miracle and John II, were born. Cozy served as a dedicated wife and mother. Her commitment was depicted through her serving as a devoted partner to her husband as a first lady at Hopewell Baptist Church. Always loving the Lord, in 2006 she accompanied her husband as a committed member of West Point Baptist Church. In 2010 being obedient to the calling of God on their lives, they planted Bridgepointe Church in Magee, Mississippi. She enthusiastically served as Director of the children's ministry and praise team, as well as core team member.
Cherishing her memories are a loving husband, John; two children, Miracle and John II; her mother, Annette Powell; a mother-in-law, Annie Pickford, Magee, MS; a great grandmother, Vessie Collins, Zachary, LA; two sisters, Vanessa Klinger, St. Petersburg, FL; and Georgette Powell (mother of Cameron, Kofi, and Chloe); a brother, George Powell II (father of Gianna and Tia); a special godson, Jochi McNair; and an adopted sister, Kristie Johnson (mother of Jordan); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
