William Spurgeon Ainsworth, 78, of Magee passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Spurgeon was born in Magee on December 18, 1932, a son of the late Marie (Rankin) and Wilson K. Ainsworth. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Sullivan) Ainsworth. Other survivors include a daughter, Diane (Kenny) Makamson of Cleveland; two sisters, Peggy (Charley) Cook, of Mendenhall; and Jean Mae (Wesley) East, of Moss; a sister-in-law, Mary Ainsworth, of Magee; two grandsons, Jason Myers (Mary Michael) Makamson, of Shaw, and Jonathan Reed Makamson of Cleveland. Spurgeon was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Ainsworth, and a son, William Todd Ainsworth.
After serving in the U. S. Army, Spurgeon, who was a Baptist, worked for Entergy (Mississippi Power & Light) for 40 years.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be Monday, December 5, 2011, from 6 pm until 8 pm at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee. The religious service will be at Tutor Funeral Home Chapel, Magee, at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, with Rev. Steve Wooten and Rev. Jerry East officiating. Interment will be in Magee City Cemetery.
