Willie Jean Abernathy, 62, of Mendenhall, MS. passed away Monday, July 29, 2013. She was born on June 9, 1951 to the parents of Willie Raford (Shows) Bynum and the late Roy Lee Bynum.
Jean was a 1969 graduate of Magee High School. She was employed with City of Mendenhall for a brief time then went to work for Entergy in 1985 until retirement.
Jean loved watching her grandsons on the baseball field. She was involved in every aspect of all her family's lives. She will forever be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by one daughter, Jeanna Odom (Johhny Frank) of Mendenhall, MS. Other survivors include one brother, Danny Ray Bynum (Cynthia) of Magee, MS., four sisters; Barbara Walton (Ken) of Edwards, MS., Ellen McWilliams (James) of Magee, MS., Pam Holmes (George) of D'lo, MS., Lisa Rankin (Cornell) of Magee, MS., four grandchildren; Casey Lewis (Jay) of Mendenhall, MS., Austin Odom, Ethan Odom, and Brody Odom all of Mendenhall, MS., four great grandchildren; Kipton Lewis, Roslyn Lewis, Cason Lewis and Garrison Lewis all of Mendenhall, MS.
Pallbearers were her "guys" from Entergy; Dale Purser, Ernest Thornhill, Sonny Bryant, Vince Burgess, Billy Wallace, Tommy Sullivan, Honorary pallbearers; Herman Walker, Joe Smith, Richard Stevens, Allen Osborn and David Craft.
Visitation was Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall beginning at 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Services were held Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 10:00 am at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Mendenhall, MS. with interment in Kennedy Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Martinville with Rev. Ted Bowlin officiating.
