Sergeant First Class Gunter Ted Polk, Chicago, IL

Gunter Ted Polk was born on December 19, 1957 in Magee, Ms to Bobbie Nell Polk and the late Blanche Polk. He was the ninth child of eleven children.

He attended and graduated from Magee School. He entered the United States Army, active duty, on or around June of 1974. After several training exercises and various units, he received an Honorable Medical Retirement in Oct 1989. He received numerous awards and decorations during his service to include Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2), an Army Achievement Medal (2) and Army Achievement Medal (2). Upon retirement, he was a Sergeant First Class assigned to the 27th Transportation Battalion (the Red One) out of Bamberg, Germany. On May 23, 1977, Ted was united in holy matrimony to Brenda Drones and raised a step-daughter, Kenyata.

Ted moved to Chicago, IL in 1999, where he still lived when on April 16, 2014, he took the Lord's hand to his new home for his eternal rest.

Ted leaves to cherish, wife, Brenda Polk; step- daughter, Kenyatta Robinson; two grandsons, Redale and Kendre; mother, Bobbie Nell Polk; two sisters, Mae Mikell of Mendenhall, Glenda Polk of Magee; three brothers, Donald Durr (Ernestine), Harold Durr, Marcell Morris, all of Magee; great aunt, Georgia Bailes of Jackson, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Along with his father, he is preceded in death by grandparents,  two sisters and three brothers. 

Services are scheduled for Monday, April 28 at 11:00 am at Pleasant Grove CME Church in Magee. Visitation will be Sunday, April 27 from 3:00-7:00 pm at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee. Final resting place will be in Pleasant Grove CME Cemetery in Magee, MS. Online condolences may be made at
