Thomas David Neely, 83, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2016 at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson. He was born on March 2, 1932 in Harrisville, MS to Millard Allen and Annie Mae (Thomas) Neely. After graduating from Harrisville High School, he entered the US Air Force for four years and then finished his education at the University of Southern MS. David met his loving wife, Betty Lynn Dumas, in high school, where they started dating in the 10th grade.
They married after Betty's college graduation on May 31, 1956, and were married for 59 years. He worked briefly in the retail market at JC Penney and Nu-Pine Manufacturing, before becoming the Braxton Postmaster where he worked for 27 years. David was an avid outdoorsman. His passion was spending time almost every afternoon after work either in the woods or on the lake. He especially loved hunting and fishing over the years with his two sons. Known by his family as "Pop", he was most proud of his sons, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. David was a member of First Baptist Church, Braxton for 71 years.
David is survived by his wife and sons, Dr. Robert Neely (Liz) and Dr. Johnny Neely (Diane), all of Jackson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Josh Neely (Katie) of Denver, CO, Reid Neely of Atlanta, GA, Max Neely (Erin) of Nashville, TN, Hannah (Neely) White (Harley), Charlie Neely, and Eliza Neely, all of Jackson; two great grandchildren, Jay and Rose Neely of Denver, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Clyde Neely and grandson, Samuel (McLaurin) Neely.
The visitation will be on Tuesday, February 16, from 5:00-8:00 pm at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall, MS. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 17, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home followed by a graveside service at Braxton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Braxton.
