James Lamar Miller, Sr., 78 years of age, a long time resident of Pinola, departed this world September 20, 2013. He was born November 17, 1934 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to the late Mattie May Berry and Riley Miller. James, better known to friends and family as "Buddy" was the middle of three children. His siblings are Catherine McGowan of Terry, MS and Sam Miller of Pinola. James was married to his precious bride of 61 years, Mary Katherine Powell Miller, of Jackson. Together their union was blessed by six children. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his two oldest children, Jacky Lynn Miller and Wanda Cheryl Perry. The surviving four children are Jimmy Miller(Fredie) of Lena, Ms., Bobby Joe Miller (Debbie), Vickie Kay Jones (Joe), and Tammy Louise Pierce (Joe), all of Pinola. His loving wife was devoted to him and remained steadfast by his side as his health declined over the past few years.
James was loving and devoted to his family which grew to include 16 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. He loved his family additions through marriage as he loved his own children as well as his nieces and nephews. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
James was a member of Ironworkers Local 469, spending the majority of his career in construction. In his golden years, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of farm life tending his cattle, horses, and pets. He was a genuine friend and a loyal companion to all who knew him.
Arrangements are entrusted to Tutor Funeral Home in Magee, MS. Visitation will be Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 5 pm till 8 pm at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee. Services will be Monday, September 23, 2013 at 10:00 am at Tutor Funeral Home Chapel in Magee. Interment will follow at New Hebron City Cemetery in New Hebron, MS.
